How does the Kowa BD III differ from the more affordable SV III series?

The biggest difference between these and the more affordable SV III series is the materials used and the field of view. With the BDIII binoculars, you can see a wider view at the same magnification, meaning you can find objects faster and looking at them may even cause a wow effect!

The differences in image quality and brightness are due to the more advanced lenses used. The BDIII series binoculars feature XD lens elements that correct errors. These lenses effectively eliminate errors such as chromatic aberration, meaning the image appears sharper. Nikon uses the name ED for similar lenses.

The roof prisms of the binoculars are coated with C3 coating which reduces light loss, meaning a brighter image. The mechanical quality is also better in the BDIII binoculars, the body is made of very durable magnesium , which is coated with a green rubber coating.

Looking at the technical specifications, the binoculars may seem the same, but these small improvements affect the overall picture and when viewed, the image is brighter, sharper, and the colors are realistic.

Smooth usability

The BDIII series of binoculars are lightweight but robust. The magnesium alloy body is weatherproof, so you can carry the binoculars with you in all situations without worry. The binoculars utilize XD lenses, which improve contrast and sharpness, bringing out details better. 2 XD lenses are installed in the objective head of each binocular. XD lens elements reduce chromatic aberration (chromatic aberration) and provide excellent resolution across the entire image area.

Kowa BDIII series binoculars are lined with a rubber coating that helps protect the optics and allows for a firmer grip, even when the surface of the binoculars is slightly wet.

Focusing is done via a relatively large and roughened aluminum focus wheel in the middle of the binoculars. The focus ring has a nice, solid feel. Focusing is quite fast, meaning it doesn't require much movement, which is especially good for birdwatching.
