Fuji has made a big update to its popular X-S10 camera. The image sensor is the same in this model, but combined with the faster 5th generation processor of the top models, this sensor is fully exploited. In addition, video recording and focusing capabilities have been completely revamped.

The Fuji X-S20 is suitable for those interested in both video and photography, with better battery life and more robust features making this a good first camera for even the most demanding photographer or a second body for a professional.

The Fuji X-S20 features the same processor as the top-of-the-line X-H2S, and this enables much faster autofocus than the previous model. The algorithms and technical aspects are faster than the previous model, and tracking, subject recognition and reaction to movement are more agile.

Additionally, if you now use SR-Auto automatic object detection , previously you had to choose from the menu whether the camera would automatically track, for example, a car or animals. Now you can turn on the SR-Auto setting and the camera will select the most efficient detection method.

The camera is still a little faster in operation when you select the mode, but if you are shooting both people and cars at events, for example, it is more convenient to handle the gig with this automatic mode on.

In addition to autofocus, the biggest benefits of the new processor are in video recording. Now 4K video is also recorded at 4K 60P, also with 10bit 4:2:2 wider color gamut recording. In addition, 6.2K open gate video, i.e. vertically wider video, is possible.

It includes features of more powerful cameras, such as F-Log2 wide tonal range recording if you want to adjust colors in post-processing. The headphone jack and microphone jack are the traditional 3.5 version, meaning you can now connect headphones without an adapter.

The Fuji X-S20 is also compatible with the optional FAN-001 active cooler, meaning the manufacturer expects this new model to be used in more demanding video productions where camera temperature and reliability must be maintained. For longer recordings, there is a special FullHD 60P LP shooting mode that slightly limits the image but allows video recording in temperatures of up to 40c for half an hour or up to 78 minutes with active cooling.

Streaming is possible using UAC technology directly via a USB cable to a computer in 4K 60P quality without any separate software.

Videographers and vloggers will also appreciate the screen that folds to the side. The design also takes into account an external microphone and the ability to flip the screen forward without having to disconnect the microphone cable.

The camera's exposure mode dial also features a new Vlog setting. This shooting mode provides quick access to settings important to vloggers, such as focus settings, self-timer, and activation of product priority showcase mode.

Usability

Externally, the X-S20 resembles its predecessor, meaning it is more similar to modern cameras from competitors, without separate controls for shutter speed, meaning that anyone switching from another brand will quickly feel at home. In addition, like the first version, the grip is deeper and the camera provides a firm grip despite its relatively small size.

This grip also allows for a more powerful NP-W235 battery, according to the CIPA standard, you can get 750 shots on a full charge, and about 800 with power control on. However, this testing is technically tough and a normal photographer usually clearly exceeds these figures and over 1000 shots is not an unusual number. So the battery life is clearly better than before.

The camera has built-in Wifi and Bluetooth, meaning you can control the camera and transfer images directly from your smart device. The FujiFilm X-S20 is also compatible with the new and much improved XApp software, which brings many new features.

You can use your phone as a GPS logger, see statistics on the number of photos you've taken, or conveniently transfer photos from a certain period of time to your phone. Connecting to the camera is also easy without having to manually turn on the camera.
