The Fuji GFX 100S II is the latest version of the GFX 100S model. In addition to this, the flagship model GFX 100 II remains in the range!
But these cameras have much more in common than just the name, as this Fuji GFX 100S II now includes the same Fuji's best autofocus as the GFX 100 II. The image sensor is new, the megapixels are the same crisp 100 as before, but the dynamics are better. Other innovations include a more effective image stabilizer and the viewfinder has been updated to be a step better.
The Fuji GFX 100S II is aimed at photography when you want decent image quality with fast focusing. If you also do video production and want a top-quality electronic viewfinder, you should also check out the GFX 100 II camera.
However, the camera's size is reasonable considering its features, meaning it's not much heavier than other professional bodies, and it comes with advanced autofocus, image stabilization that moves the sensor, and even 4K video recording. This makes it suitable for both professionals and the most demanding art reproductions, and now, with the updated autofocus, for very fast-paced shooting.
More effective image stabilization
The Fuji GFX 100S II's image stabilization helps when shooting handheld, and you get the most out of the 102 million pixels and Fujinon lenses. The stabilizer also works in conjunction with the stabilizers found in the lenses, and the power is maintained even at longer focal lengths. Effective stabilization is a big part of how this body has become a replacement for film cameras, when shooting without a tripod in even a little darker conditions, the image files would reveal that the camera's full potential cannot be used, the resolution is so merciless at these readings.
The updated image stabilization now has a power of 8 stops. The image stabilization also enables the Pixel Shift Multi-shot feature. In this case, the camera takes up to 16 RAW images and moves the image sensor 0.5 pixels at a time between images. These images are assembled into a highly accurate 400 megapixel file. Each image also stores only one primary color, red, green or blue, so in addition to resolution, the color information is more accurate.
The autofocus is borrowed from Fuji's top-of-the-line X-H2 / GFX 100 II bodies, meaning it includes AI-taught object-detection autofocus. The camera recognizes if there is, for example, a bird, car, motorcycle, airplane, and train in the image and locks the focus on this, and continuous focusing is also reliable.
The categories are quite extensive and bird also includes insects and airplane mode includes drones. There is also a general mode for varied shooting. The object-detection autofocus now also works in video shooting.
The Fujifilm GFX 100S II does, of course, include traditional face or eye detection focus modes suitable for portrait photography.
The GFX 100S II has better features for video shooting, but it can still handle video projects. The video image is created from the entire sensor area and not from a specific cropped image, so the video image also has a nice medium-sized feel and narrow depth of field.
4K video is recorded at 10-bit color depth directly to a memory card, but the camera also provides ProRes video files directly to an SSD connected to the USB-C port. F Log 2 wide-gamut recording is also available, and the camera has a microphone jack as well as a headphone jack for audio monitoring. And like all new Fuji cameras, Frame.IO support is built in.
Switching between photography and video mode is done directly with a dedicated switch.
Weighing just under 900g, the GFX 100S II is a go-anywhere camera and is the size of other brands' flagship models. Wildlife photographers don't have to worry about the weight of their gear and choose between image quality and the amount of stuff they can carry. There's a clear display on the top of the body that shows you the most important settings.
The Fuji body fits well in the hand, and for protection and improved grip, it now has an improved Bishamon-Tex coating, like the GFX 100 II body. The surface and the shaped handle make it easy to use with one hand.
The Fuji GFX 100S is a tough professional camera, but it comes with the same JPG settings as the lighter bodies, including 20 film simulations for quick tone adjustments. Fuji's JPG images are highly praised for their tone and quality, meaning that for fast-paced catalog shooting, for example, with the right settings, you can create a ready-to-use image straight away.
The camera has two SD USH-II memory card slots for unique situations, so you can back up your files while you're shooting.
