The Inspire 3 continues the series of professional-level film and television production drones. Compared to its predecessor, the Inspire 2, image quality and usability have been significantly improved.

The investment is bigger than with consumer-grade drones, but this set includes everything you need for production use, except for the lens: the drone itself, RC Plus controller, Zenmuse 8K camera, 6 x TB51 batteries and charging hub, 1TB SSD, propellers, and carrying cases.

Zenmuse X9-8K Air camera

The main camera is the DJI Zenmuse X9-8K Air, a full-sensor, 8K image quality, and gimbal camera developed specifically for this drone. In addition, the fuselage has a built-in FPV camera with 1080p 60fps wireless video transmission and a 161-degree viewing angle for easier control.

The Zenmuse X9-8K, which acts as the main camera, records video at 8K CinemaDNG 25fps or 8K ProRes RAW 75fps, depending on the codec licenses purchased. The manufacturer promises up to 14 stops of dynamic range and Dual Native ISO ensures that details are preserved. To store high-resolution bitstreams, the drone comes with a 1TB SSD hard drive.

The sales package does not include a camera , but DJI manufactures several different lenses:

An FPV camera that helps the pilot see which direction the helicopter is flying. The FPV camera has 2-axis stabilization, so the image is smooth. The viewing angle is 161 degrees, which is double compared to the previous Inspire 2 model. The image is transmitted in 1080p 60fps quality and the larger sensor makes the image clearer at night and in low light.

New airframe, flight characteristics and sensors

Externally, the Inspire 3 is similar to the previous model, meaning the arms act as landing gear and when raised during flight are out of the way of the camera. The legs contain several distance-measuring sensors, meaning obstacle detection works like on consumer devices. The automatics can be turned off or they can also be kept as assistive, in which case a visual aid will be provided to the helicopter controller when sending, but you can make the decisions yourself.

It comes with a 1TB SSD drive, the same as the one in the DJI Ronin 4D camera. The drive has a USB-C connection to make your workflow easier. It also comes with 6 new TB51 batteries, the advantage of the new battery type is better performance in cold weather. Since two batteries are attached to the drone at a time, you can replace the batteries on the ground one at a time, so you don't have to shut down the copter.

The DJI Inspire 3 includes the Waypoint Pro system, which allows you to plan and repeat more precise flight paths. With the 3D Dolly feature, these adjusted paths can be adjusted to fly faster or slower according to the movement of the subject being filmed. In addition, with the separately purchased RTK positioning system base station, these flight paths and positioning can be done with an accuracy of a few centimeters, even in difficult conditions such as near metal structures and power lines.

The standard controller is the DJI RC Plus with a very bright (1200 nits) 7' screen, meaning the image is clearly visible even in daylight. The controller is weatherproof and includes very comprehensive and customizable controls. The built-in battery lasts three hours and can be charged using the same charging hub that charges the TB51 batteries. You can also purchase a second controller for the flight kit, so you have separate devices for the camera and flying the device.
