This is the kind of camera we've been waiting for! Under the small outer shell is a real video beast. It has fast AF, a large image sensor, and a very wide 16-50mm cine equivalent lens. In addition to video content, this one takes photos with a resolution of 22 megapixels, even in raw format. This device is created for the creator of impressive content.

If your goal is vlog videos, photos taken with a scope, and photos that clearly stand out from smartphone footage, this will do the trick! However, the phone is also included with the Powershot V1, as controlling the camera and easily transferring and streaming images is easy via mobile apps.

Kameraliike.fi has had a chance to get to know the camera and it seems like a very promising device. The structure is sturdy and covered in the right places with a grippy rubber coating. The size is confusingly small considering the features. When examining the camera, pay attention to details such as the tally light visible at the front and back, the air vents for active cooling, and the adjustment ring around the lens.

Despite its paperback tradition, Canon didn't really start making vlog cameras like Sony, for example. But now the whole thing is so well thought out that the wait has been worth it.

The Canon Powershot V1 represents a completely new model series. The video recording features are really solid and although the camera is so-called video first, meaning that video-related things are most prominently displayed in the user interface, there is also a very interesting device for photography in the background. There is a separate switch for changing the video and photography side, meaning that the camera settings can also be adjusted for still photography as desired. Thanks to this switch and division, there are also double the number of settings memory locations.

The focal length of the optics is unique in its scope, meaning this could be a reliable device for landscape photography on hikes or for real estate agents. Other manufacturers don't have anything this wide in this size range. The lens is fixed and therefore has been tailored to fit this camera.

A 3-stop ND filter has also been included, making it easier to optimize the exposure time for video recording. In addition, the image stabilization is optically effective at 5 stops, meaning that additional digital stabilization is not needed for video recording.

But what the heck is a 1.4-inch sensor size? Basically, the camera has a sensor familiar from the Canon EOS R7 body, which defines a slightly smaller area, i.e. approximately the same area as MFT cameras, smaller than in SLR cameras but clearly larger than in point-and-shoots!

The camera has a mechanical leaf shutter, meaning you're not solely at the mercy of the electronic shutter when taking photos, meaning you can capture fast-moving subjects and shoot in artificial light without any interference. The leaf shutter is also almost silent.

Thanks to the leaf shutter, the flash sync is a whopping 1/2000, which means if you use a sturdy hand-held flash or studio lights, you can take great pictures even in daylight.

The Canon PowerShot V1 offers very fast continuous shooting in its class, up to 30 frames/s with an electronic shutter.

4K video is created from 5.7K of data across the entire sensor area. This so-called oversampling technique is familiar from more expensive models and produces a more detailed and less noisy video image.

Active cooling is a big differentiator in the camera right from the start. According to preliminary data, this allows 4K 60P video recording for up to two hours without thermal problems. This is not even possible with many so-called hybrid system cameras.

Autofocus is Canon's acclaimed Dual Pixel AF, which means it recognizes and tracks subjects such as animals and people smoothly and accurately. There are features suitable for Vlog use such as product introduction. Bring the subject in front of the camera and the camera quickly focuses on the right spot.

The lens is really great for video shooting, thanks to the ND filter it is easier to adjust the exposure time to the optimal one, which means the video image is smooth and cinematic. Thanks to the optical 5-stop image stabilizer, there is no need for electronic stabilization, so you can enjoy a really wide focal length. This camera is great for vlog videos in your hand, no need to reach or use extension handles.

There is a high-quality internal microphone with noise filtering, but the camera also has connections for a microphone and headphones for audio monitoring.

The camera battery can be charged with the included charger or directly from a power bank using the USB-C connection.
