LED ring light - the most popular type of light?

LED ring lights are very popular in lighting. And it's no wonder, as advanced technology has lowered prices, improved efficiency, and ring lights don't need light modifiers like softboxes, but can easily create soft light without any additional equipment.

Shadow-free light is achieved by shooting from inside the ring light, but the light can also be placed to the side, creating more formative traditional lighting as needed.

These ringlights produce continuous light, making them suitable for photography as well as videography.

Ring light with stand

Some ring lights have a built-in stand, either table-top or height-adjustable. Larger lights have a separate attachment to a light stand or camera stand. A separate stand is always more sturdy and allows for creative placement of the light, for example, above. The stand also helps save desk space when making makeup videos or video conferences, for example.

Ring light for phone

We have small lights that can be attached to your phone, but even though these lights come around the camera, the size is not enough to achieve a great result. The power and quality of the light also often lag behind the larger ones. It can be said that the more power you want and still want soft light, you need to choose a larger model.

It's no exaggeration to choose a 14 or 16 inch model for shooting with a smartphone. Often, these ring lights come with a phone holder as standard, so you get a smart mount and high-quality light at the same time.

Quality of light, i.e. color reproduction

The most important thing for last! If color tones and color reproduction are at all important, for example, if you are making videos. The subject is a person or accurate color reproduction is important, it is worth reading the CRI or RA reading, which tells you about the quality of the light, in the technical specifications of the light.

If you are making a cosmetics video or a video that aims for quality in terms of production values, choose a light with a CRI of at least 95. This way, the light will be of high quality and the colors will be reproduced in a realistic glow and not in a flat, flat way! If the technical specifications of the LED light do not mention the CRI or RA value, you can safely leave it without buying it!
