Birding binoculars for nature lovers and backyard birders

Today, the most popular binoculars are those designed for bird and nature observation.

The sizes most commonly used by birdwatchers are, for example, 7x42, 8x40, 8x42, 10x42 or 10x50. These models have the best ratio of magnification to front lens diameter for the requirements of the hobby.

What makes a good pair of birding binoculars depends on your needs. If you are a migratory birdwatcher or otherwise want to observe a larger number of birds at once, then a binocular with a wider field of view is an advantage. If, on the other hand, you want to observe nesting birds or make more precise identifications of individuals, then a higher magnification is useful.
