The long-awaited new lens Sony 16-55mm is Sony's best lens for crop sensor cameras like the A6600. The focal length is 24-82.5mm in cine equivalent.

The Sony 16-55mm F2.8 is part of the manufacturer's G-series, although Sony has said that the mechanical quality of the lens is almost that of the G Master top-of-the-line. Borrowed from professional lenses, the Sony 16-55mm 2.8 includes a Focus hold button, this button can be used to lock the autofocus for recomposition or to program it for EyeAF eye focus, for example. For the first time, a lens with a smaller sensor size uses a new and fast XD focus motor. The Sony E 16-55mm does not include image stabilization, so the stabilization is assisted by the sensor stabilizer that may be found in the body.

The lens uses several special elements, including two aspherical and three ED lens elements that reduce distortion. There are 9 diaphragm blades and they are rounded in shape, which gives the out-of-focus bokeh areas a beautifully soft shape and close-ups.

The Sony 16-55 is weather-sealed against moisture and dust.
