The M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm shows where the OM System is at its best. High-definition optics and an easy-to-carry size. The cine equivalent focal length is 200-800mm, the lens also has image stabilization and is weather-protected to suit the Finnish nature.
The OM System 100-400 is also compatible with 1.4X and 2X teleconverters. When using the OM System 1.4X teleconverter, the equivalent focal length is 280-1120mm F7.1-9 and with the 2X teleconverter, the equivalent focal length is a whopping 400-1600mm F10-13.
In addition to wildlife and distant subjects, this lens also produces impressive close-up images. The closest focusing distance is 1.3m throughout the entire zoom range. In addition, the Focus Stacking function of OM System cameras works with this lens.
The OM System 100-400mm uses several special lenses to improve image quality and reduce errors. The lens is IPX1 weatherproof, meaning it is protected from dust and splashes of water.
The autofocus is fast and there are limits on the side of the lens for the focus area if you are shooting objects at a certain distance and there are branches in front, for example.
Despite its long focal length, Olympus has designed the lens to perform well in handheld shooting. The new Sync IS image stabilization works in conjunction with the in-body stabilization to improve the sharpness of handheld shots. The lens comes with a detachable tripod collar that can be rotated to the side or up for a better shooting position. The lens also has a zoom lock for easy carrying by hanging it on a shoulder strap. The lens weighs approximately 1.1 kilograms.
