Haida PRO II Variable ND3-32 reduces light continuously by 1.5-5 stops. Lightweight adjustable ND filter for video and photography, sizes 49-82 mm.

The Haida PRO II Variable ND is an adjustable ND filter that reduces light by 1.5-5 stops. One filter does the job of several fixed ND filters. The power is adjusted by turning the front bezel, and the change is immediately visible in the viewfinder or on the screen.
In video, it's a good idea to keep the exposure time about twice the frame rate. At 25 frames per second, that means 1/50th of a second. This will make the movement look natural and not jerky.
There is often too much light outside for this. Without a ND filter, you have to reduce the aperture, which makes the background sharper. With adjustable ND, the aperture and exposure time remain at the desired values. When a cloud passes in front of the sun, the exposure is corrected by turning the filter.
In photography, the filter helps you shoot with a large aperture in bright light. A narrow depth of field and a soft background are achieved even when the camera's fastest shutter speed would not otherwise be enough. In addition, water and movement can be softened with a slightly longer exposure time.
In bright sunlight, 5 apertures is enough for a video exposure of 1/50 second at around f/4 (ISO 100). With a fast lens fully open at midday, more power is needed. In cloudy weather, in the evening and in the shade, 5 apertures are more than enough.
The limited adjustment range is also an advantage. The adjustable gray filter is built from two polarizing films, and at the darkest end a dark X-pattern can appear in the image. The adjustment range of this filter ends at five stops, so the X-pattern is practically not created.
If you need more power, the Haida PRO II CPL-VND 2-in-1 filter has a range of 3-7 stops and also has a polarizing filter combined in the same body.
According to Haida, the filter does not vignette up to a focal length of 35mm. With lenses wider than this, the corners of the image may darken.
The filter is available in sizes 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77 and 82 mm.
If you have multiple lenses, it is a good idea to buy the largest size you need. For smaller lenses, you can use a step-up ring to attach the filter. A larger filter on a smaller lens also reduces the risk of vignetting at wide angles.
