The Sigma Ceramic Protection filter is designed to protect the front element of your lens from dirt, dust, scratches and impacts. The protective filter is completely colorless, so it does not affect the color reproduction of the image in any way.
Sigma's WR Ceramic is the first filter in the world to use this technology. This filter set is 10x more durable than a regular protector filter, meaning it is resistant to impacts and scratches. The difference between ceramic glass and normal reinforced glass is that ceramic glass is reinforced throughout, while reinforced glass is only reinforced on the surface. Because the glass is reinforced throughout, the thickness of the filter glass has been reduced by 50% and the weight has also dropped by 30% (compared to previous Sigma Protection filters).
WR or Water Repellent
Sigma's WR filters are coated with a water and oil repellent coating. The coating reflects only 0.24% of visible light, thus minimizing the appearance of flare. The filter's surface repels water and oil - water bounces right off, and fingerprints come off with a quick wipe.
Antistatic
The filter's antistatic coating means less dust remains on the front lens and small dust particles can be blown away more easily.
Brass filter thread
Brass is the best material for making filter frames, it is slightly softer than the light metal filter threads on lenses and the filter does not get stuck and attaches firmly and precisely to the lens.
