A fast 14mm F1.4 wide-angle lens for Canon RF compatible bodies. Exceptional image quality for astrophotography, for example.

Canon RF lenses have almost every lens you need, from 20mm wide angle to super telephoto, and there has been plenty of choice without compromising on quality. But there has been one shortcoming, namely a fast, very wide angle lens, but now this shortcoming has been fixed!
Canon RF 14mm F1.4 L VCM is a professional wide-angle lens with a high aperture. The lens is designed with its intended use in mind, meaning it is sharp even at full aperture, with pinpoint details such as stars appearing at the edges without coma and other distortions being minimized. According to the manufacturer, image quality is now at a whole new level, making it an effective tool for star photography, architecture and landscape photography.
We are eagerly awaiting the first tests, especially from astrophotography enthusiasts. The manufacturer described the performance quite briefly: Exceptional , meaning exceptionally good compared to anything else.
The Canon 14mm F1.4 is the first wide-angle lens from Canon with such a bright light. And in fact, only the new RF bayonet allows the lens to be designed with these requirements , i.e. a shorter distance from the sensor and a wide diameter of the mount allows the lens elements to be brought closer. And there are no fewer than 18 lenses in 13 different groups, and many of these are complex special lenses, meaning that now there is no need to resort to image correction in the camera body, but optical errors are minimized optically.
In addition, the manufacturer's more robust coatings, familiar from super-telephoto lenses, are used to minimize reflections even when there are bright light sources in the image.
The size and weight of the lens is very similar to other Canon VCM models, meaning the gimbal stabilizer and rig adjustments can be kept at the same settings.
Canon has announced new Z-series zooms and these primes with a VCM focusing motor under slightly different names, but the idea behind these so-called hybrid line lenses is to combine the most important features of videography and photography in the same device, meaning that you'll find an aperture control ring and image quality optimized for film use.
And the most significant change is the VCM (Voice Coil Motor) focus motor based on voice coil technology and the traditional Nano USM (two focus motors in the lens that move different lens groups). The benefit of this is very fast and practically silent focusing.
For the first time, aperture adjustment is possible with RF series lenses using a dedicated adjustment ring directly on the lens. The adjustment ring can also be locked in the automatic position and aperture adjustment is done through the camera, just like with other lenses. Aperture adjustment while taking photos only works with new camera models, we are still waiting for a list of compatible ones or a possible update.
