If you are looking for a 50mm lens with Leica M mount, this may be the best choice for many. The lens is a new design, the image quality across the entire image area is excellent, especially at traditional portrait distances.
The image quality is actually so good that most often this lens is compared to the Leica Summilux-M 50mm ASPH lens, which is in many ways more expensive. But still at certain distances this Voigtländer wins. But when shooting to infinity and transitioning from blurry to sharp, the Summilux shows its strength. Just being on the same level is a really great achievement considering the reputation and image quality of the Summilux.
The Voigtländer's bokeh is a bit nostalgic, meaning it has more character at the edges of the image than, say, modern SLR lenses or the aforementioned Summilux. If you want a more modern sound, the Nokton 50mm F1.2 from the same manufacturer may be a better option.
This F1.5 II weighs only 198g and is very compact. So the lens offers sharper images, nice and slightly characteristic bokeh, great mechanical quality, so the Nokton 50mm F1.5 II is a very good option. Maybe not the best in any area (despite the size) but good enough in everything to be the favorite lens of many Leica photographers.
