More information about the campaign
Lighter and smaller in size, but surprisingly big in features! The Sony 24-50mm is a mini performer thanks to its slightly more limited focal length, but there has been no compromise on brightness or image quality.
Sony has two named lens series, the top-level G Master and the low-end G and their lenses that do not have a special series. This G model lens does not fall far short of the G Master, so the image quality is okay according to initial tests and, for example, the autofocus speed also remains with the A9 Mark III camera.
According to initial tests, the image quality falls between Sony's 24-70mm G Master and 24-70mm G Master II series! The latest 24-70mm II is the manufacturer's flagship and number one in terms of image quality, but this little novelty may well come between them and it is a good performance in this price range.
Like other manufacturers, Sony corrects the image directly in the camera or in image editing software. This means that the vignetting and small distortion of the wide-angle end are partly corrected software-wise, thus keeping the lens size under control and achieving the same brightness.
Sony uses the same XD focus motors as in its telephoto lenses, and there are two of them in the lens. The lens also works with the Sony A9 III in continuous shooting and 4K 120P video recording, so it offers performance well into the future with new cameras.
The closest focusing distance is only 18cm at 24mm focal length, which means you can get surprisingly close with this. This is of course not a true macro lens, but it offers new angles and possibilities. The image quality is also maintained and the autofocus works quickly, which is not always a given with short focal lengths.
In addition to the speed mentioned a few times, the new focus motors are very quiet, meaning there will be no extra noise on the soundtrack. The aperture ring can be found directly on the lens and the clicks between the apertures can be turned off, meaning that aperture adjustment can also be done during video recording.
The lens doesn't promise to be parfocal, but it's still very close! To be honest, when you change the focal length, the focus stays very close to the right place, and on the other hand, it's easier for the camera to make a small change in focus quickly.
The Sony 24-50mm weighs only 440g, which means it can be easily carried with gimbals.
Manual focus is linear, meaning that if follow focus is used, the operation is always the same, meaning that planning the focus is easier and it is always repeatable from shot to shot.
In addition to the lens hood, the lens comes with a zippered, padded protective case for the lens.
The weather-resistant construction and outer lens surfaces are coated to repel dirt.
