This kit includes the compact Sony FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 lens
The Sony A7C II is a combination of small size and big performance. The external dimensions are roughly the same as the APS-C sensor size camera A6700, but the camera has a full-frame sensor borrowed from the A7 IV. In addition, the Bionz XR processor familiar from the top models has been borrowed and it brings innovations such as autofocus. The camera sensor has a resolution of 33 megapixels, the same as the A7 Mark IV body. The burst shooting is also the same, recording 10 images per second.
New high-end cameras have a lot of machine learning features that recognize figures, animals or vehicles, which helps focus and especially continuous focus work quickly. In addition to recognizing just body parts , the system can recognize and predict the movements of the person in the picture using Pose estimation technology, so the focus system is ready to focus quickly, as if guessing where the focus should be.
This enhances the reliability and speed of focusing, especially in demanding situations, such as when the subject is in a dense forest, when shooting against backlight, or when other subjects are moving in the frame.
And what this new focus system can track with focus:
And the animals are no longer cats or dogs, meaning the same focusing features work well on very exotic wild animals or more domesticated subjects like squirrels and rodents.
The same AI Processing Unit is also used to adjust exposure and white balance, and the camera also has a separate sensor for light and infrared frequencies, which record colors as realistically as possible even in difficult conditions. Sony has put this into numbers and promises 20% more accurate exposure when there is a person's movement detected in the image.
In addition, macro and landscape photographers will appreciate the focus bracketing function, which means the camera can take up to 299 images with slightly changing focus. These can be used on a computer to create a single image with a wide depth of field.
The image stabilization has also been updated from the previous version and is now 7 stops in power.
Like the Sony A7 IV, this camera is also available for video use by many photographers. The camera's 4K video is recorded using the entire pixel count of the sensor, meaning that a 7K image is converted into a 4K video file. This supersampling technology results in sharper images and less noise and aliasing than 4K video, which records every other pixel in the video (and wastes half of the image information!).
In a nutshell, this one takes at least the same level of video as the big brother model, meaning there are plenty of examples on Youtube. And in some respects, the features are better. Here are the magic words for video recording:
So, like Sony's new bodies, the features are okay, so the video quality also depends on skills and ideas.
The camera has a microphone and headphone jack. In addition to the traditional 3.5mm jack, the camera comes with Sony's digital interface for audio devices (for example, the M-B1N digital microphone ) which completely bypasses the most common sources of noise and allows for up to four-channel recording.
If the first A7C was a slightly stripped-down little brother model, now we're going to go over some of the features of the A7 IV: it comes with better stabilization, more advanced autofocus and additional features for video recording. However, the A7 VI will remain on sale as normal and offers a slightly more solid grip on the camera, a larger and more accurate electronic viewfinder and two memory card slots.
Flash sync is possible with the A7C at a speed of 1/160, while the Mark IV's fastest speed is 1/250. This may be important for those shooting with flash.
The Sony A7C II includes one memory card slot (vs. two slots in larger models).
The Sony A7C has pretty good controls for adjusting settings for its size, and now has a dial on the front of the body. The biggest difference compared to larger Sony cameras is the lack of a joystick , meaning you have to move the focus point, for example, via the touchscreen (or rely on automatic subject detection).
And to recap the reasons why the A7C II is better:
The battery type is FZ100, the same as in all of Sony's new generation cameras. This offers very good battery life, with a full charge you can take about 530 pictures (depending on whether you shoot through the viewfinder or the screen). Charging is possible directly in the camera via the USB-C connection. A charger or cable is not included, but you can use, for example, a USB-C charger from a phone or computer.
The Sony A7C II is weatherproof.
