This is what mirrorless camera lenses should be! Now Sigma delivers on its old promise of brightness, image quality, and compact size. According to Sigma, this new 28-70mm is equivalent in image quality to the 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens!

Although this is not an Art series lens, the mechanical quality is also considered to be of a very high standard, so it is not a discounted version of its big brother but a lighter version for mirrorless Sony bodies.

This is the same size as most manufacturers' 24-70 F4 fast zooms. So it's great for gimbal use or as a companion for smaller bodies. Together with the Sigma fp camera, this lens is lighter than Panasonic's 24-70mm lens!

The optical design is different from the 24-70mm Art model and there are fewer lens elements, but by using special lenses and changing the focal length to a wide angle of 28mm (angle of view here 75 degrees vs. 85 degrees in the Art), the size of the lenses is more reasonable and weight savings have been achieved. The same Nano Porous Coating is also used as in Sigma's new Art series.

The lens body is made of TSC (thermally Stable Composite). But in addition to saving weight, this material does not change with temperature changes, so the lens elements remain precisely in place even when going from cold to warm.

The manufacturer promises that the lens's focusing element's stepping motor is quiet and autofocus is fast. All Panasonic autofocus features are also supported.

Differences vs 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens

Although the image quality is largely the same, as is the aperture, the Art series lenses have some advantages. The Sigma 24-70mm Art includes better weather protection, but the 28-70mm is also protected on the bayonet side and with seals.

This lens does not include an AF Lock button or mechanical zoom lock, although this is not as necessary due to the lighter lens elements.
