The Pentax AD 10x36 WP binoculars are binoculars with a more traditional 10x magnification for birdwatching and nature observation.
The Pentax A-series, to which the Pentax AD binoculars belong, includes compact binoculars with a maximum 36mm front lens. This is generally considered the compact little brother of the S-series.
The binoculars have been made lighter by making the body of the binoculars from corrosion- and impact-resistant glass-fiber reinforced polycarbonate plastic. One of the advantages of this material is its temperature resistance - thermal expansion does not affect the binoculars as much. The body is also lined almost entirely with a rubber coating, which both protects the body from bumps and also provides grip even if the binoculars are slightly wet. Another advantage of the rubber coating is that it prevents reflections and dampens the impact of the binoculars, which is important when observing shy birds and animals without them being noticed.
The soft rubber-lined and knurled focus ring is comfortable under the index finger. The focus mechanism is designed so that focusing from the closest focusing distance of 3 meters to infinity requires approximately 540 degrees, or one and a half rotations of the focus ring.
There is a tab on the front of the binoculars' hinge that, when unscrewed, reveals a standard 1/4" tripod thread. You can attach an adapter to this to attach the binoculars to a tripod or stand.
