The camera has a new name, but the Panasonic S5D is exactly the same model as the first Panasonic S5. It doesn't have the phase-detection autofocus found on the S5 II, but otherwise it has the mechanical quality of the Panasonic S series, meaning the camera is weather-sealed, the buttons and dials exude quality, and the camera has a very effective internal image stabilizer. Naturally, the lens mount is also the same L-mount, meaning lenses are available from several manufacturers.

Panasonic has loaded this camera with a huge number of video recording features, and the camera is at its best when you need top-notch photos and professional-level video equipment.

The autofocus technology is based on contrast detection, but like competing brands, it also includes figure, face, and eye detection to assist with focusing.

The camera's internal stabilizer is the same as in Panasonic's top models. The sensor moves on 5 axes and the power is 5 f-stops and combined with the lens stabilizer up to 6.5 f-stops.

Video recording features

4K 30P video is recorded without time limits! The higher color depth 10bit and 40K 60P video are recorded for 30 minutes at a time, but the camera has effective thermal management and the camera is ready for a new task after a break!

Panasonic has not limited the features and is directing buyers to use camcorders or the S1H, for example. Now, a device weighing a couple of tons has been packed with tools that are quite sufficient for video production!

The Panasonic S5 has two SD card slots, one of which supports UHS-II speed. The battery type is the new DMW-BLK22 and can take about 470 photos on a single charge when shooting through the viewfinder, meaning the battery life is also on par with the larger S-series cameras.

According to Panasonic, the camera's weather protection is at the same level as the GH5 model. This is a great thing for those familiar with that previous model, which has almost become a classic. The camera should therefore withstand quite heavy use in various conditions. Panasonic S-series cameras are great for taking on a trip when reliability and durability are important.
