The long-awaited new product is here! Fast lenses for Nikon's full-frame mirrorless bodies are now available. In addition to the previously announced 24-70mm F2.8 S lens, this 70-200mm F2.8 S is an optically superior professional-grade telephoto zoom.
The fast 70-200mm is a very versatile lens. It can be used to shoot portraits, sports and nature even in demanding conditions. The Nikon Z 70-200mm includes image stabilization, which works in conjunction with the Z-series in-camera stabilization. Nikon promises that this double stabilization will provide 5 f-stops of effect.
The Nikon 70-200mm S features two separate stepping motors that drive two separate focusing elements. The autofocus is fast and can also be used for video recording. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of just 50cm.
The lens is designed from the ground up for mirrorless bodies. All Nikon S-series lenses have been top-notch and have brought improvements to the image compared to older versions of mirrorless cameras. The optical design is modern and this is particularly evident in the complex lens structure. There are many lens elements, many of which are special lenses that eliminate distortion and improve sharpness.
This and the over 12000e AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR lens use the new SR lens element for the first time. This special lens reduces chromatic aberration at a certain wavelength. There are 9 diaphragm blades and they are rounded in shape.
The lens has a programmable focus ring, with the default setting it handles manual focus, but the same ring can also be used to change the aperture value or compensate for exposure. Like professional lenses, there is also a programmable L-Fn button. The Nikon Z 70-200 S also includes a handy display that shows the focal length, aperture, focus distance and the depth of field calculated using these.
The lens is weather and dust protected.
