Tamron managed to do what Nikon lacked: a compact and affordable telephoto zoom that works with full-frame Z-series Nikons. Nikon's own Nikkor Z 50-250mm only works with frame-based cameras, and the Nikkor Z 70-200mm F2.8 S is a full-fledged professional lens, meaning it's clearly in a different price range.
According to the manufacturer, this is the smallest and lightest full-frame telephoto zoom lens for Nikon, which is true as it is also the only lens of its kind. It weighs just 580g and the lens is 15cm long.
This Tamron 70-300mm is a great option if you don't need F2.8 aperture. Despite its small weight and size, the lens is made for demanding amateur photography, and the features or image quality are not inferior to its competitors.
Nikon's advanced focusing features are fully supported by this lens. Additionally, vignetting and distortion caused by the optics are corrected directly in the camera. The lens software can also be updated through the camera.
The Tamron 70-300mm is weather and dust protected around the mount and other important points.
The focus motor is the RDX familiar from other models in this lens series, meaning that the focus is fast and precise but at the same time so quiet that it is also suitable for video shooting.
