Laowan Ultra Macro lens with adjustable magnification between 2.5x and 5x. While normal macro lenses allow for 1:1 magnification, this lens' 5:1 is a whole new dimension. It's almost like a microscope attached to a DSLR camera. Compatible with Nikon Z mirrorless bodies.
The Laowa 25mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro 2.5-5x lens is fully manual, but it doesn't have a traditional focus ring. Focusing is done by moving the camera closer or further from the subject and adjusting the magnification.
Due to the very shallow depth of field, the lens is not suitable for handheld photography.A macro rail helps with precise work. The focus can be adjusted by adjusting the screw. One option is the Nisi Macro focusing rail .
There are markings on the lens to make it easier to adjust the magnification, and the adjustment ring is nicely sturdy, making it easier to work with fine details. The aperture ring, on the other hand, has clear clicks, so switching from one aperture to another is easy without even looking.
The focal length of the lens is quite wide compared to traditional macros at 25mm. This allows for a slightly longer depth of field even at high magnification (but as mentioned earlier, it is still very small!).
The working distance from the subject is approximately 45m at 2.5X magnification and 40mm at full 5x magnification, meaning you have to get quite close to the subject, but thanks to the shape of the lens, light reaches the subject.
Because this lens does not have infinity focus, it is designed purely for macro photography.
