The Fuji X-T5 is a treat for photographers. Now with 40 megapixel resolution and Fuji's acclaimed traditional user interface, i.e. dedicated adjustment wheels for sensitivity, shutter speed and exposure compensation on the camera! Sure, this one shoots 6K video and the focus borrows features from the X-H2 series, but Fuji has clearly listened to fans of the camera series and taken their wishes into account in the design and made a photographer's camera.
The Fuji X-T5 features an APS-C sized sensor with a higher resolution than any other camera manufacturer. This sensor is designed to make the most of Fuji's acclaimed lenses. The sensor and processor, as well as autofocus and image stabilization, are the same as those found in Fuji's X-H2, so this is a very capable device packed into a stylish body.
Turn on the Nostalgic Neg color setting, grab your favorite lens and shoot!
Fuji previously released the X-H2 and X-H2S cameras and now this X-T5. The H stands for Heavy Duty and the X-H2 are basically professional models. This X-T5 borrows the technology from the X-H2 but includes fewer video features (for example, 8K video capture is missing) and has a sleeker body and includes traditional controls.
The X-T5 is a high-resolution model, for photography and also for video shooting if you don't need more special settings or 8K video. The viewfinder resolution is lower than in the X-H2 models.
The X-H2 is a high-resolution model for landscape and studio photography. As well as for video photography if higher resolution is important, in fast movement (e.g. panning) this model can show the rolling shutter effect of the sensor and the dynamic range is slightly smaller in video. Features include a 40 megapixel sensor, Pixel Shift multi shot, 8K video and oversampled 6.2 and 4K video.
The X-H2S is a model for those who appreciate speed. For nature and sports photography and demanding video production. Features include 40fps continuous shooting with an electronic shutter, the image is visible in the viewfinder even during continuous shooting. For video shooting, a smaller rolling shutter and probably faster autofocus
In addition to the large 40MP resolution, for the first time the FujiFilm X-T5 includes a multi-shot feature based on sensor movement. In practice, the camera takes 20 separate images and uses the sensor stabilizer motors to move the sensor to different points with pixel precision. Using the separate Pixel Shift Combiner software, a 160-megapixel image file is built from these 20 images. This feature requires the use of a tripod and is best suited for product photography or static subjects. But with the right subject, the function rewards with amazing accuracy!
In addition to the computing power of the fifth-generation processor, the algorithms have also been updated. The Fuji X-T5 includes the same software as the X-H2, which includes deep learning autofocus. There is no artificial intelligence in the camera as advertised, but the algorithms have been trained on millions of different subject variations.
And this is reflected in the camera's better ability to recognize objects such as vehicles (cars, various airplanes, motorcycles, bicycles, trains), animals (birds, dogs, horses) and of course people (even with masks and glasses).
In addition to face detection, the camera has eye-detection focus, which must be activated separately and can be programmed to work directly with a single button. By moving the focus point, you can choose exactly the right person whose eyes will be focused on.
Adjusting autofocus is made easier with several presets that are suitable for different sports and situations. The Fuji X-T5 includes a very modern and functional focusing system.
The biggest differences between the X-H2S and the X-H2 are in video recording. Several recording formats, such as ProRes 422HQ, have been removed. Recording is possible at 6.2K resolution, but the image is somewhat cropped.
For those who shoot a lot of video, the earlier X-T4 model is also a good option thanks to its forward-facing screen and more extensive video settings.
But if terms like Prores, Full Size HDMI, and oversampling don't excite you, then this X-T5 is also a great device for video shooting.
We've already covered the shutter speed and sensitivity adjustments several times before, but the camera also has an additional adjustment wheel at the thumb and index finger positions, which also have a button function. In addition, there is a separate adjustment knob on the body for autofocus, so usability is fine even for demanding users.
The viewfinder has a resolution of 3.64 million dots, but the optics have been updated to new ones and provide a bright and large viewfinder image.
Headphones can be connected to the camera via the included USB-C adapter, and the microphone has its own 3.5mm jack. The battery is the same powerful NP-W235 as before. It can take about 590 photos on a single charge.
Sales package includes: FUJIFILM X-T5 silver body, FujiFilm XF Fujinon 16-80mm F4 OIS WR lens, NP-W235 battery, USB cable, headphone adapter, strap
Note: Due to a new EU regulation, the package will no longer include a power supply.
