The Panasonic 24-60mm F2.8 is an interesting lens. Other manufacturers also have normal zooms that are more compact than the traditional 24-70mm lens, the size is usually achieved by increasing the aperture or reducing the focal length range (28-70 or 24-50),
Panasonic was able to surprise us a bit with the new lens because this 10mm difference at the telephoto end is not at all that noticeable and the wide-angle and aperture are now the same as the S Pro series lens.
Manual focus is traditionally handled by a control ring, however, focusing is now electronic via a focus motor, and therefore with new bodies like the Panasonic S1 Mark II, focusing can be programmed to other features such as exposure compensation. In addition, there is also a programmable button on the side of the lens.
The Panasonic 24-60mm F2.8 is great for video shooting thanks to its fast autofocus. It is also compatible with the new cameras' Hybrid Zoom feature, which combines the focal length of the lens and digital zoom without any loss of image quality. In addition, the focus direction and operation can be changed to linear, making it easy to use follow focus systems.
According to initial tests, the overall image quality (sharpness, blurring) and focusing speed are very close to the previous 24-70mm F2.8 S Pro lens, meaning the new lens seems to be a very balanced and high-performance lens.
