A highly accurate, portable and stable tracking platform for astrophotography.
Built-in hour axis
One of the most important things in tracking platforms used for astrophotography is the setting of the hour axis.
With the Kenko SKYMEMO S, precise hour axis alignments are always possible, further supported by the polar sight illumination.
Select tracking mode
Equipped with a total of eight tracking modes, including fixed star tracking mode, sun and moon tracking modes, the Kenko SKYMEMO S shows its full potential in all aspects of astrophotography, as you can also photograph celestial objects such as the sun or moon, not just fixed stars.
By turning the dial, you can easily select the tracking mode you want to use.
Fixed star tracking mode
This mode is particularly suitable for star photography. By turning the selector to the ? symbol, the tracking system starts to follow the diurnal movement of the stars and can thus continue to track the same star. When shooting in this mode, the stars also become pixels. The fixed star tracking mode is therefore particularly recommended if you want to photograph celestial objects such as dark stars and nebulae.
Sun and moon tracking modes
Compared to fixed stars, the sun and moon have completely different speeds of movement and diurnal variations, which together require different tracking modes. The Kenko SKYMEMO S is therefore equipped with special tracking modes for the sun and moon, and you can select the one you need by simply turning the dial to either the corresponding ? or ? icon.
Tracking mode at 0.5x speed
The Kenko SKYMEMO S is also equipped with a 0.5x speed tracking mode that supports starscape photography by allowing you to include both the horizon landscape and the starry sky above it in the same image. This 0.5x speed tracking mode also facilitates smooth and slow movements, and with a short exposure, you can freeze and immortalize the starry sky right above your favorite landscapes. All of these features make the 0.5x speed tracking mode particularly suitable for taking starscape photos.
Other tracking speeds
By turning the dial to 2x, 6x, or 12x, you can speed up the way you capture the diurnal motion of stars. These modes are especially handy for time-lapse photography.
Off mode
Last but not least, the off mode turns off the power when you're done tracking. But that's not all. In the OFF mode, you can take still images where the stars appear on an arc centered on the North Star.
Built-in interval timer
Interval timer shooting is a shooting mode that allows you to automatically take pictures at set shooting intervals. The Kenko SKYMEMO S is equipped with an interval timer shooting function so that by connecting its shutter control port to your camera's external shutter control port using an optional shutter control cable, you can take pictures automatically at set shooting intervals. Interval timer shooting can also be performed during tracking.
When combining time-lapse photography and astrophotography, it is essential to know in advance where the celestial object you want to photograph is and how it moves. For this reason, each tracking mode of the Kenko SKYMEMO S corresponds to preset time-lapse values depending on the subject or shooting speed, and you can easily check it in the following table: [https://kenkoglobal.com/product/skymemo_s_portable_tracking_platform/] (http://)
The Kenko SKYMEMO S is powered by four AA alkaline batteries (not included). It can be used continuously for approximately 72 hours.
