Completely new sensor technology! The Sony A9 III features a 24.6 megapixel stacked so-called Global shutter sensor. This goes deep into the technical intricacies, but the change is significant. Global shutter enables 120FPS continuous shooting with autofocus and exposure metering on full-size RAW files, flash sync at any shutter speed, video recording without rolling shutter, flawless images under artificial light, and perfect freezing of fast motion.

New cell technology - Now it's fast

Here is the speed of the Sony A9 III in numbers:

• 120 frames per second burst shooting

An electronic shutter, or silent shutter, is always a great feature on paper, but in demanding shooting, the feature is often underused due to image distortion and banding issues. Sony has been a pioneer in this area, and Global shutter has now eliminated this problem completely.

So the camera is fast. But there are also smart functions to help with burst shooting, such as Speed boost. You can keep the burst shooting at a more reasonable speed, but in very fast motion, you can conveniently activate the Speed Boost feature with your middle finger on the new C5 button and shake up the 120FPS sequence.

In addition, quick previews are conveniently possible in the camera, there is no need to scroll through individual images, but the camera shows one series of images as a video, from which it is easy to preview the entire situation. The video can be paused and individual images can be marked like individual photos.

The Sony A9 III includes a very useful Pre-Capture feature, like other brands, which starts recording images immediately and saves previous images when you press the shutter. This way you can time fast-paced sports or a bird catching its prey just right.

In addition, the Global Shutter sensor enables much more. Flash sync is possible at all shutter speeds with TTL metering turned on directly without the HSS feature. This means that 1/80000 flash photography is possible.

The best camera for shooting indoor sports and events

In addition, artificial lighting does not cause a change in the brightness of the image, which makes it easier to shoot in sports halls and indoors, for example. The Sony A9 III includes Flicker free technology, which is familiar from the A1 top model, and this is used, for example, to eliminate exposure fluctuations in successive frames. The camera detects when the lights are at their brightest and the images are timed to this moment with millisecond accuracy.

But the very disturbing wave-like banding patterns caused by artificial light sources such as sports field lights or even household lamps have been completely eliminated with the help of new cell technology.
