Modular, designed for outdoor photographers and videographers, the Shimoda Explore 30 daypack. 30-liter capacity. Color: Sea Pine

The smallest backpack in the Shimoda collection!
Shimoda Explore is a backpack series designed specifically for outdoor photographers and videographers, and its lead designer is Ian Millar, who once worked on F-Stop backpacks - so it's no wonder that Shimoda has many of the same features as older F-Stop backpacks. Of course, Millar has also brought new innovations and refinements to the backpacks.
Shimoda backpacks are designed for photographers who carry their equipment over long distances - such as landscape photographers, wildlife photographers, adventure sports photographers, or any outdoor photographer. If you're looking for a backpack to carry your equipment from home to the office or from the car to the location, look no further than Lowepro backpacks.
The Shimoda backpack in its simplicity:
This is the smallest model in the Shimoda backpack series with a 30-liter capacity . The collection also includes larger, 40-liter and 60-liter backpacks. The only difference between the two smaller backpacks, besides the capacity, is that in the larger Explore 60 backpack, the "main compartment" of the backpack can also be accessed traditionally from the top of the backpack. In this smaller Explore 30 backpack, the "main compartment" of the backpack and the top compartment of the backpack are their own sections.

Since the backpack is truly designed for the outdoor photographer, the features and refinements of the backpack reflect that aspect. One of the most important features is that the Shimoda withstands and protects the contents of the backpack in surprising outdoor conditions , whether it is Finnish summer rain, heavy snowfall in Lapland, or the dusty sand of the savannah. According to various online reviews and tests, the backpack's waterproofness is very good. Can it withstand a storm? No hiking backpack or camera backpack is invincible against the most extreme conditions, but the Shimoda offers a well-balanced protection in bad weather. The outer fabric material is waterproof coated Ripstop nylon, and the waterproof zippers made by YKK prevent rain, snow and sand from entering the backpack's interior through the pockets and access hatches.
The most important features of a daypack and a camera backpack that you can wear for a long time are also how comfortable it is to wear. And comfort in turn consists of well-designed straps, a waist belt and a back pad. The Shimoda backpack's special features are the padded wide shoulder straps, the height of which can be adjusted according to the height of the backpack wearer, making it easy to balance the backpack to suit everyone. This is a feature that is found in few backpacks and what makes Shimoda a one-size-fits-all backpack in theory.
The Shimoda backpack is supported by an internal and strong aluminum frame (6061 T6) , which keeps the backpack upright and distributes the load anatomically evenly even when the backpack is fully loaded. The Simoda Explorer is also designed to stand upright without having to lean the backpack against a wall or tree. This feature may not be something you'd want/think about until you get to test it; it makes packing and taking things out of the backpack a breeze when you don't have to worry about the backpack falling over.

The Shimoda Explore backpack's special features, like the F-Stop backpacks, include the ability to customize the backpack to your liking using separately purchased Core Unit storage compartments. The type of Core Unit you need depends on your camera setup and quantity.
What is a Core Unit?
The Core Unit or ICU, or Internal Camera Unit, is a separate camera equipment compartment where you store and protect your camera, lenses, and other accessories. The storage case keeps your camera equipment organized in the backpack.
Core Unit inserts are available in two sizes; Small and Medium. You can purchase one or more inserts for your backpack. By combining these, you can customize the backpack to suit your own look and your camera equipment. Shimoda also offers separately purchased Accessory Cases in Small, Medium and Large sizes, which allow you to easily organize small accessories such as batteries, memory cards, and cords inside the backpack.

The Shimoda backpack features a large storage space and several pockets for a variety of accessories. The main entrance to the backpack's interior is from the back of the backpack, where a large back panel opens to the side like a door, providing easy and as unobstructed access to the backpack as possible. The "main compartment" can also be accessed from both sides of the backpack through a zippered door - the side openings are a bit cramped for larger cameras, but if you want quick access to a pocket camera, a small mirrorless camera, or want to quickly remove a lens from the backpack, then the side doors are convenient.
The top of the backpack opens into a large top pocket, which is separate from the "main compartment" of the backpack. You can safely pack a jacket, gloves, towel and/or other personal items in the top section, keeping them separate from your camera equipment.
