Updated V2 version of Shimoda's excellent X50 backpack - Updated with a second pocket for a 16-inch laptop, hidden pocket for an airtag, and a pocket on the shoulder strap for a phone
Shimoda Action X series backpacks are designed for outdoor and mobile content creators who value weather resistance and the adjustable size of the backpack.
The Shimoda Design Action X50 is the middle model in the Action X backpack series with an adjustable 50-57 liter capacity. The collection also includes the smaller X30 and the larger X70 backpacks.
The biggest difference between the Action X backpack and the Shimoda Explorer backpacks is the so-called roll-top mechanism, which allows you to adjust the size of the storage space at the top of the backpack depending on how much stuff is in the backpack. In addition, the side access to the backpack has been improved. The waist strap can be removed, and the shoulder straps are replaceable.
Key features:
Shimoda has taken into account the fact that for nature photographers and 'action sport' photographers, for example, camera equipment is only half of the total amount that the photographer carries with them. The other half includes a change of clothes, food and drinks, flashlights and first aid kits, etc. It is therefore good to have enough space in a backpack, and for this reason the bag-like top with roll-top mechanism offered by the Action X is excellent for this need, as it offers 7 liters of additional space.
The Shimoda Explorer backpack series has already received praise for its weather protection and durability, and this Action X series, designed for action photographers, is no less. The outer fabric material is waterproof coated Ripstop nylon, and waterproof zippers made by YKK prevent rain, snow and sand from entering the backpack's interior through pockets and access hatches.
The most important features of a backpack are how comfortable it is to carry on your back. And comfort in turn consists of well-designed straps, a waist belt and a back pad. The Shimoda backpack has padded wide shoulder straps, the height of which can be adjusted according to the height of the backpack wearer, making it easy to balance the backpack to suit everyone. In addition, the waist strap can be completely removed if necessary, if you do not want to use it.
The Shimoda backpack is supported by an internal and strong aluminum frame (6061 T6), which keeps the backpack upright and distributes the load anatomically evenly even when the backpack is fully loaded. The Simoda Action X 30 is also designed to stand upright without having to lean the backpack against a wall or tree.
The Shimoda Action X50 backpack is compatible with the following internal components:
The difference between the interior of Version 2 and the older version is the side section that can be opened with a zipper.
The Core Unit storage compartment allows you to customize the backpack to your needs. The type of Core Unit you need depends on your camera setup and quantity.
What is a Core Unit?
The Core Unit or ICU, or Internal Camera Unit, is a separate camera equipment compartment where you store and protect your camera, lenses, and other accessories. The storage case keeps your camera equipment organized in the backpack.
Shimoda's selection also includes separately purchased Accessory Case bags in Small, Medium and Large sizes, which allow you to easily organize small accessories such as batteries, memory cards, and cords inside the backpack.
The main entrance to the backpack's interior is, as usual, from the back of the backpack, where a large back panel opens to the side like a door, providing easy and as unobstructed access to the backpack as possible. The "main compartment" can also be accessed from the other side of the backpack through a zippered hatch - the side opening has been redesigned compared to the Explorer series backpack. In this case, you must also use the newer v2 Core Unit if you want to utilize the side hatch.
The top of the backpack has the previously mentioned pouch-like section. Thanks to the roll-top mechanism, the space can be rolled up or down depending on how much stuff you are carrying. When fully opened, the pouch-like section of the backpack adds 7 liters of space, giving a total volume of 57 liters.
