The cult camera is back! The street photography classic, already known in the film era, has been updated to its third digital version and the changes are extensive:

The feature list is therefore very comprehensive and sufficient for any camera, but now it is a very small compact that fits in your pocket! And inside the camera, however, there is an APS-C size image sensor found in most system cameras . It is worth checking the numbers 11cm, 6cm and 3cm with a ruler and imagine the device in the palm of your hand. Ricoh GR series cameras have been standard equipment for street photography for years. The understated stylish appearance, sharp wide-angle lens and really polished usability (including the Focus Snap feature) have made the camera a favorite of Daido Moriyami in his own life.

The Ricoh GRIII is a photographer's tool, the controls are very good for its size. There are adjustment rings on the front and back. All buttons are located on the right side, so you can control the camera with one hand, using just your thumb. You can drink coffee with your left hand or put it in the pocket of a stylish suit.

The sensor's greatly increased resolution is accompanied by a three-axis image stabilizer that moves the sensor , which is promised to be four stops in power. Autofocus is now based on phase detection , and has become much faster. Focusing also recognizes faces in images. The improved resolution also makes it more versatile to use the camera in cropping modes, images can be cropped directly to a focal length equivalent to 35mm and 50mm film, and there are still pixels left to record a sharp image. The new lens also focuses very close, at a basic setting of 10cm, and in macro mode the closest focusing distance is only 6cm .

At its best, the Ricoh GR3 is just 28mm wide-angle, the redesigned lens is clearly better in terms of drawing. The slight wide-angle is also suitable for the camera's characteristic spontaneous expression, the camera has an electronic spirit level, but sometimes you have to let the horizon go awry. A high-quality wide-angle attachment is also available for the camera, which increases the focal length of the lens to the equivalent of 21mm in film.

If you have to leave your photoshoot suddenly and forget your memory card at home, don't panic, the camera has 2GB of built-in memory and the battery can be charged directly with a USB-C cable, for example via a power bank. Transferring images is very convenient via Bluetooth LE, and the GR III can be set to send new images to a smart device even when the camera is closed in a bag.
