Venus Optics Laowa's new 12-24mm wide-angle zoom lens is in a class of its own in terms of its small size and lightness, considering that it is suitable for full-frame cameras.
The lens is manual focus and, like the Laowa, there is very little geometric distortion in the image. Sharpness improves by dimming and this is an inexpensive tool for landscape photography compared to the focal length. The closest focusing distance is only 15cm, which means that this allows for quite sharp images if you place the subject close to the camera, you can get close but still show the surroundings.
The Laowan 12-24mm F5.6 has a 77mm filter thread, but due to its very wide angle of view, this will be visible in images taken with full-frame cameras if the focal length is at the widest possible.
This super wide-angle 12-14mm lens lets you fit everything in your shot, whether you're shooting tight interiors or expansive landscapes. As a bonus, you can get great close-up shots (closest focusing distance 15cm) while still capturing a wide range of surroundings.
The lightness and size of the Laowa 12-24mm lens allows for lighter shooting equipment and that means using a lighter boom and gimbal. The five diaphragm blades create a beautiful 10-pointed star pattern when shooting towards a strong light source.
You can see a lot of test photos taken with the lens on Laowa's website!
