Genelec 8040B brings power and depth to monitoring. Robust performance and high sound pressure even without a separate subwoofer. Ideal for the studio and home. Colors dark gray, black, white and RAW untreated aluminum.

The Genelec 8040B is a step up to the heavyweight class. When the performance of smaller models is good but you want more bass extension and higher sound pressure without a separate subwoofer, the 8040B is a natural choice.
This model has become a global standard in recording studios, post-production and demanding home theaters, offering acoustic authority and a wide frequency response, yet remaining compact enough to be placed on stands or a sturdy surface.
Available in four finishes: dark gray suitable for the studio, black, more interior-friendly white, and rough RAW, or untreated aluminum.
The Genelec 8040B is designed for both near-field and mid-field monitoring. The larger enclosure and 6.5" driver move air in a way that is physically felt.
Although the 8040B is still so-called compact, it requires a sturdy stand or table.
Wide Sweet Spot and DCW Directional
Genelec's patented DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide) is seamlessly integrated into the cabinet design. It aligns the drivers and directs the sound in a controlled manner. In practice, this means:
Wide listening area: You can move around at the mixing desk or on the couch without the stereo image collapsing or the sound color changing radically.
Fewer room reflections: Controlled directivity helps keep sound clear even in acoustically challenging spaces by reducing reflections from side walls.
Since the speaker's goal is neutral reproduction, it must be able to adapt to different environments. The speaker's rear panel features versatile Tone Controls:
Bass Tilt: If the speaker is placed close to a wall or in a corner, the bass will be emphasized due to the laws of physics. With the Bass Tilt switches (-2, -4 or -6 dB) you can cut this cumin and restore the balance of the frequency response.
Desktop Control: This setting reduces 160 Hz hum caused by the desktop or mixer meter bridge by 4 decibels, significantly clarifying the midrange.
Treble Tilt & Bass Roll-Off: Additional controls for fine-tuning the treble (+2, -2 or -4 dB) or cutting the lowest bass.
The 8040B's sound is distinctive: neutral, punchy and distinguishable. The midrange is extremely clear, making it easy to mix vocals and speech. The treble is bright but not overwhelming.
The biggest difference from smaller models is the ease of sound and the depth of the bass. The 8040B delivers low frequencies effortlessly, and there's an authority to the sound that makes a mix sound more finished.
The 8040B reproduces bass cleanly down to about 45 Hz (-3 dB). For most music productions (pop, rock, jazz, acoustic) this is more than enough, and a subwoofer is not needed.
Purchasing a subwoofer is mainly justified if you work with heavier electronic music, mix LFE channels for movies, or want to lighten the load on the main speakers at high sound pressures.
Die-cast aluminum enclosure (MDE): The enclosure is made of die-cast aluminum. It is very rigid, durable and acoustically dead. The rounded corners prevent sound diffraction (scattering), which improves the definition of the stereo image.
Intelligent Power Saving (ISS): The technology monitors the signal and automatically switches the speaker to power saving mode (<0.5W) when playback stops. It wakes up without delay when you resume listening.
Iso-Pod™ Stand: The included rubber stand isolates the speaker from the base and allows you to tilt the speaker at just the right angle towards your ears.
Note: The Genelec 8040B is a professional-grade active speaker. It does not have its own volume control, so connect it to a controllable audio source (e.g. sound card, preamplifier or DAC). Sensitivity control (-6 dBu to +6 dBu) is located on the rear panel.
