The Zoom H3-VR records 360-degree audio, enabling a wide range of surround sound experiences. In addition to virtual reality (VR), the recorder is suitable for video production and creating soundscapes for games.
The compact recorder is easy to take with you and place exactly where you need it. The H3-VR uses two AA batteries as its power source, so you don't have to worry about power outlets and cords.
The recorder has four built-in cardioid microphones, which enable high-quality four-track 24-bit / 96 kHz recording for 360 and other uses.
The LCD screen, clear menu and carefully placed buttons make the H3-VR recorder easy to use. The Hold function prevents interruptions or changes in settings during recording, as it locks the selected settings for the duration of the recording.
With the free Zoom Ambisonics software, you can record your recordings in either stereo, binaural (two-track 3D sound) or 5.1 surround format.
The recorder has a built-in decoder that converts the audio from Ambisonic A format to the ready-to-use Ambisonic B format, thus avoiding the need to change the audio format in post-processing.
The H3-VR also features a 6-axis sensor that detects the microphone's position, whether it's upright, upside down, or sideways. This allows for a realistic and accurate soundscape for the video, even at unusual angles. The sensor also works when playing back audio from the recorder, so you can check how the finished sound behaves in space and when moving.
The 3.5mm headphone jack allows for real-time monitoring in both stereo and binaural formats. Binaural monitoring is a convenient way to ensure the multidimensionality of the sound and the correct orientations already during the recording phase.
You can connect the device to your computer via the recorder's USB port, allowing you to use it as a 360 microphone even when streaming.
If you want to connect the recorder to the camera, you can do so using the 3.5mm line output. For VR cameras, a holder is included to attach the recorder. This means you can have the recorder travel with the camera even when moving.
It is also possible to mount the recorder on a tripod using the 1/4" mount.
