The tilt head makes even the heaviest camera+lens combination feel feather-light. The tilt head is ideal for birdwatching under a telescope, or for use with long and heavy lenses for wildlife photography.
A gimbal-style tripod head is the sturdiest and safest choice for under heavy lenses or, for example, under a telescope. Normal camera heads can of course withstand the weight of heavy assemblies at their best, but when making adjustments you have to fight gravity to prevent the camera from tipping over. A gimbal head doesn't have this problem. Point the camera where you want it, take your hand off the camera, and the head stays exactly where you placed it.
The most significant change in the II version compared to the previous one is the horizontal panning control. The control has been moved to the same side of the head as the vertical panning. This is a big advantage, because now one hand is used for the adjustment and the other hand is free to operate the camera. In the older version, the horizontal control had to be reached from under the head.
The Winberley tilting head has four adjustment knobs. Two of these are used to secure the lens-body combination, and the other two are used for adjustments during use.
The WH-200 head has an Arca-standard quick plate adapter, making the head compatible with almost all Arca-Swiss quick plates. The head does not come with a quick plate, so it must be purchased separately.
The Wimberley WH-200 requires a very sturdy tripod to use. The bottom of the head has a 3/8” thread, so it fits directly onto most tripods.
