A photo book. The history of a traditional family business in pictures and words.

Mikkeli Photography Center publication 2016
" The work is dedicated to the memory of Veikko Kivimies Salmela (1930-2016) and the Central Finland Stone Industry Ltd.
Keski-Suomen Kiviteollusuus Oy operated in Mikkeli for eighty-five years - until 2014. Veikko Salmela had an unusually long, 70-year career as a stone carver and managing director of a small company. At its peak in the 1930s, the company employed nearly forty stonemasons in Jyväskylä and Mikkeli. This book also pays tribute to the Finnish natural stone industry, in which craftsmanship has played a central role.
Keski-Suomen Kiviteollusuus Oy has always been a family business. Petteri Laurikainen, representing the fifth generation of stone carvers in the Salmela family, has continued the stone carving business with Kirsi Liukkonen since 2014 under the new name Mikkelin Kiviveistämö Oy.
In addition to his sculpting, Veikko Salmela was known for his numerous hobbies. He was a very skilled draftsman and photographer. Veikko photographed small everyday events and nature-oriented excursions. The stonemason was a craftsman and had the open soul of a sensitive artist."
