The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is a professional-grade standard zoom lens from the G-Master series (GM after the brand name), Sony's flagship lens line. This wide-angle zoom lens is compatible with E-mount mirrorless cameras, both full-frame and small-frame. The lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire focal length.

As befits the G-Master series, the lens feels solid and the body is made of textured magnesium alloy. The thick rubberized zoom ring feels comfortable in the hand and makes working in cold conditions, for example, more pleasant.

The zoom can be locked using the lens switch, which prevents the zoom from slipping during transport. On the side, there is a practical and familiar AF/MF switch, which allows you to switch between autofocus and manual focus without having to go into the camera menus.

The programmable Focus Hold (Fn) button is conveniently located on the left side of the lens, within easy reach of your thumb. It is possible to assign the desired function from the camera's menu to this focus hold button, such as Eye-AF or one of many other options.

In addition to all of this, the SEL-2470GM, like other GM lenses, is dust and splash-proof, and its front lens has a fluorine coating that repels dirt and grease.

Weighing 886 grams and measuring approximately 13.5 cm long, the lens is not the smallest. Despite its physical size, it fits well on a full-frame Sony body (e.g. a9, A7 III, a7S II). Due to its size, comfortable zoom ring and relatively wide focus ring, the lens also provides a good grip and is easy to handle with gloves on.

The focusing mechanism is driven by a DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor), providing smooth and quiet autofocus. In addition to still photography, the lens is also great for video shooting.

The optical construction consists of one Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) element, one XA element, and two Aspherical lens elements. This group is complemented by one Super ED lens element. All of these work together to combat distortion and chromatic aberration typical of wide-angle photography, while maximizing edge sharpness.

Nano AR film coating keeps ghosting and flare under control, especially when shooting against backlight.

In addition to the lens hood, the lens comes with a zippered, padded protective case for the lens.
