Sony FE 135mm f/1.8 is a professional lens. This focal length is most commonly used for portrait photography, but thanks to its good brightness and fast autofocus, the Sony 135mm GM is also great for sports photography. The Sony FE 135mm GM offers sharp detail across the entire image area even at the full F1.8 aperture, and the bokeh quality is sufficient for even the most demanding portrait photographer.

The lens is from Sony's best G Master series, meaning the usability is similar to other GM lenses and the lens has a durable body and is weather and dust-proof in construction.

The starting point for this Sony 135mm F1.8 G Master lens has been high resolution and bokeh quality , meaning that the transitions in depth of field and the outer areas must look beautiful. Sony's high-resolution bodies such as the A7R III have 42 megapixels, so the sharpness of the lens must be sufficient for these demanding sensors, even at full aperture. Especially in portrait photography, image sharpness is only part of the image quality, the quality of the drawing is also important. The Sony FE 135mm G Master contains up to 11 rounded diaphragm blades, thanks to which the background of the subjects is drawn beautifully soft even when shooting with a smaller aperture. This means that you can stop down the lens aperture to, for example, F4 to extend the depth of field, but despite this, the light sources and details in the background are drawn nicely rounded.

The quality of the bokeh is also affected by the XA lens element made of special glass, which is designed specifically with the softness of the background in mind. According to Sony, each XA element used is quality-assured separately to ensure that there are no errors in the drawing. In addition, the lens uses Super ED and ED lenses that correct distortion. In addition to the special elements, the lens uses a Nano AR coating that reduces reflections and ghosting. The outer lenses are also treated with fluorine, which reduces dirt adhesion and makes it easier to clean the lens surfaces.

Autofocus speed is important when shooting sports and nature. The Sony 135mm F1.8 G Master features a whopping four focus motors , two for each focus group. In addition, the focus motors are more powerful than the XD-type motors. The fast telephoto lens contains large and also heavy lens elements, powerful focus motors are necessary for the lens to work even in demanding professional use.

In addition to the previously mentioned dust and moisture protection, the lens has other G Master series features. The lens has an aperture ring that can also be made to operate silently (handy for video use). Two programmable Focus Hold buttons, which can be used to start, for example, Eye AF focusing. There are three settings for limiting the autofocus distance. The Sony 135mm GM also focuses quite close, the shortest focusing distance is only 70cm. For manual focusing, the lens has a large and tactile focus ring, and manual focus correction also works when autofocus is on. Focusing also works linearly, which makes it easier to use follow focus systems.
