The Sigma 50mm F2 is a completely new lens made for mirrorless cameras. The aperture is a reasonable F2, and thanks to this and Sony's in-body stabilizer, the size and weight of the lens have been kept well under control.
The Sigma 50mm F2 DG DN is part of the I Series lenses, which Sigma calls a series of compact premium lenses. In addition to image quality, it also features an aperture control ring, a magnetic lens cover, and a metal construction with a brass bayonet. The lens is also made in Japan!
The lens features aperture control directly on the lens and works in conjunction with Sony's body exposure programs. The lens' design could be described as retro-modern, with traditional elements but the performance and technology are in line with the Contemporary series. In addition, the lens has a good-feeling focus ring for manual focus, and there is a dedicated switch for adjusting the focus mode.
Autofocus is implemented using a fast and quiet STM motor and all of Sony's EyeAF features are supported, such as real-time tracking and animal eye detection, as well as the new AF Assist.
The Sigma 50mm is a lens that can be recommended for those who shoot with a single lens tactic or as a second lens alongside a zoom. In addition to the sharpness of the edge drawing and minimal distortion, a major design point has been the bokeh, i.e. the drawing of areas that are out of focus. With this you can shoot landscapes and portraits, whether they are everyday recordings or professional images for demanding use.
A lens hood and a magnetic quick-release lens cap are included. The lens is weather-sealed on the bayonet side.
