Sigma's new super-bright lens, designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless Sony.
Right from the start, the Sigma Art 50mm f/1.2 DG DN impresses (positively) with its size, if we recall Sigma's first DN (mirrorless) 35mm F1.2 DG DN lens, which is "mammoth" in terms of dimensions and weight. The new 50/1.2 is very similar in size to Sony's own G Master series 50mm f/1.2.
The Sigma 50mm F1.2 is part of the manufacturer's Art series, meaning the lens has been designed to provide the best possible image quality, and the sharpness is sufficient even for high-resolution bodies such as the Sony a7R V. The lens produces sharp results right at full aperture, even at the edges of the image field. The Sigma 50mm is suitable for both portrait photography and demanding landscape photography. Thanks to its excellent brightness, you can capture the details of the night sky.
In addition to the image quality, the usability is also familiar from the professional level of the Sigma Art series. The lens has an aperture ring for adjusting the aperture. You can choose to click in 1/3 stop increments and for video use this can be made silent with a switch. On the side of the lens is the Focus Hold button familiar from Sony's G Master series lenses, which can be used to stop the focus or activate, for example, Sony's EyeAF focus.
Manual focusing is particularly precise thanks to the large focus ring, the turning radius from the closest distance to infinity is 540 degrees, meaning you can get the focus just right, and Sony's focus aids such as Focus Peaking also help. The focus ring is also suitably damped and its feel resembles that of premium manual focus lenses.
The Sigma 50mm F1.2 is weather and dust sealed. There is a sealing ring around the bayonet and the outer lens element of the lens is coated with a dirt and dust repellent coating.
