The 35mm and 50mm lenses are classics of sorts, becoming popular over time and extremely versatile. This Sigma 35mm DG DN lens also exudes a classic feel, mechanically this is the same gem as the previously announced 45mm version: the body is made entirely of aluminum, the bayonet is made of brass.
Aperture adjustment is done directly from the lens control ring in the traditional way. The pinnacle of the fine design is the magnetic lens cap, meaning you can just slap the lens cap in front of the lens and it stays there.
The focus ring is also suitably damped, like quality products from previous decades, meaning the lens is also suitable for use with manual focus. But of course, autofocus is also available and it works accurately and quite quietly. The lens has a focal length that changes slightly with focus when focusing, this so-called focus breathing phenomenon can be a problem in video shooting, but this does not matter in photography.
However, the tradition ends at the optical design, which means this lens has a modern optical construction. There are ten lens elements in nine groups and several special lenses are also used. The lens is also manufactured at Sigma's Japanese factory.
