The Olympus 75-300mm II is a truly expansive telephoto zoom lens in a compact size, allowing you to bring even distant subjects close with a twist of the wrist. The long focal length is ideal for situations when you can't get close to your subject in nature photography, for example due to the subject's shyness, or in sports photography when the action is taking place at the other end of the field. The telephoto zoom also allows you to take expressive close-ups of your subject's face and details in landscapes.
Although there is no macro feature here, the working distance of the 75-300mm lens, i.e. the distance from the lens surface to the subject, is also great for close-ups. With a closest focusing distance of 1.5 meters at 300mm focal length, it allows you to photograph not only flowers but also insects. For example, with a timid and agile dragonfly, you want to keep a longer distance so that it doesn't immediately fly away when you approach it.
The biggest advantages of the lens, besides its focal length, are its size and lightness. Weighing only 423 grams and measuring 11.7 cm long, the Olympus 75-300mm telephoto lens is therefore suitable for a mobile nature photographer who moves from place to place using muscle power and wants his equipment to fit sensibly in a backpack. Despite its lightness, the lens is solidly constructed, with a high-quality plastic body and a metal bayonet.
The optical construction consists of two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements and one Super ED glass element. Together, these help to combat distortion and chromatic aberration (color aberrations in outlines). A ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) lens coating keeps ghosting/ghosting and flare under control throughout the zoom range, especially when shooting against backlight.
Autofocus is controlled by Olympus' MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) focusing motor, providing smooth and almost silent autofocus. The lens is not only great for still photography, but also for video shooting.
All M.Zuiko lenses are compatible with all Olympus PEN and OM-D models , as well as other MFT cameras . This means that the lens is also compatible with Panasonic's Micro four thirds (M43) cameras. This lens does not have image stabilization, so the lens utilizes the body stabilization of Olympus cameras. The image stabilization makes it easier to shoot handheld.
