Autofocus is handled by two separate focus motors moving two lens groups, so focusing is fast at all distances.

The Nikon 105mm F2.8 includes an effective 4.5-stop image stabilization, meaning stabilized shooting is possible even with the lighter Z50 body. On full-frame Z bodies, the lens and body stabilization work together.
