The Nikon D7500 is the successor to the popular D7200 body, and is based on much of the same technology as the flagship APS-C body model, the Nikon D500.
Most of the camera's core components are from the Nikon D500, so the image quality is on the same level. However, the price has been reduced by stripping away some features and simplifying the focusing system familiar from the D500 body.
The sensor in the D7500 system camera body is the DX or APS-C sized 20.9 megapixel CMOS sensor familiar from the D500 and the processor is the highly efficient Expeed 5. The sensitivity is ISO 100-51200, but it can also be expanded to a record-breaking ISO 1640000, just like the D500 body.
The camera can shoot continuously at 8 frames per second, and the camera's memory buffer can hold 50 14-bit RAW or 100 full-size JPEG images. The D7500 has a 51-point Multi-Cam 3500 II autofocus system, which also features the ability to combine groups of five points into blocks. 15 of the autofocus points are cross-type, and focus works even in extremely low light conditions down to -3 EV.
The Nikon D7500 records video in 4K UHD resolution and at 24p, 25p or 30p. 4K timelapse shooting is also supported. Like the D500 body, 4K videos are recorded from the 3840 × 2160 pixels in the center of the sensor, so the crop factor is 2.2x (the D500 model has a crop factor of 1.5x). Due to the crop factor, a very wide focal length is recommended for 4K video shooting, as, for example, a 24mm wide angle is equivalent to approx. 50mm normal lens. When shooting at FullHD resolution, videos are recorded from the entire width of the sensor. The body has microphone and headphone jacks that make video shooting easier, as well as digital image stabilization, which helps keep vibration under control. It is also possible to record 4K UHD video to an external recorder via the HDMI output, while compressed 4K is saved to the camera's memory card.
The rear screen is a 3.2-inch (8.1 cm) LCD that tilts vertically and responds to touch. By touching the screen, you can adjust the focus point, for example, even when looking at the subject through the viewfinder.
Image sharing and remote control are done using SnapBridge technology, familiar from previous models. SnapBridge maintains a constant, low-power Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection between the camera and smartphone.
