This lens is very similar to the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO lens. The main difference is that the new 90mm f/2.8 is made for mirrorless cameras. Another difference from the port lens is that it has internal focusing, meaning the front lens element does not move and there is no removable UV filter. Laowa's new 90mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro APO is therefore better protected against dust.

The close focus distance is only 20.5 cm, so there is only about 7 cm of space between the front lens and the subject, with such a large 2:1 magnification ratio, it can even be said to be a sufficient distance.

The lens is made of metal and because it is manual focus, the lens is smaller, lighter and more affordable than many competing products. Laowa specializes in macro lenses and this new 90mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro Apo is a very balanced package that meets the expectations set for a prime lens if a manual focus lens without optical stabilization suits your shooting style.
