DJI RS 5 Gimbal camera stabilizer. More powerful stabilization and many small improvements bring joy to video production.

The DJI RS 5 represents the latest evolution of the Ronin series. The previous generations of devices are good and have served as trusted devices in many productions, but this fifth version is a good update. The device's performance has been increased with a new fifth-generation stabilization algorithm, more efficient motors, and several small improvements.
The device is also available in a Combo version with an Intelligent Tracking Module and an additional handle.
In practice, this extra power is reflected in the stabilizer's ability to keep the camera straight even in extreme situations, such as when running or making quick transitions from a low angle to a high one. The increased torque also improves control of heavier lens combinations without pushing the motors to their limits.
While a 3-axis gimbal can’t technically eliminate the up-and-down motion caused by walking, DJI RS 5 offers a new kind of visual aid. A real-time Z-axis indicator appears on the touchscreen, visualizing the amount of vertical sway. This provides immediate feedback on the smoothness of your movement, helping you fine-tune your walking technique, or ninja walk, to make it as smooth as possible during your shots.
As mentioned, the device has a lot in common with the previous generation devices, but even experienced users will find many pleasant innovations.
The fine tuning knobs on the stabilizer arms are coated with Teflon , which significantly reduces friction. Fine Tuning knobs, or in principle fine-tuning balancing, help balancing surprisingly much. Unlike the four-wheel version, these are now found on each axle.
Social media content production has also been taken into account with the third-generation vertical shooting mechanism: the camera can be rotated from horizontal to vertical simply by turning the mounting plate without additional parts.
Power management is one of the device's strengths. The standard battery offers up to 14 hours of shooting time, but the most significant improvement is in charging speed. When using a 65W PD fast charger, the battery can be charged from empty to full in just one hour, reducing shooting breaks during long workdays. A smart auto-lock feature has been added to the touchscreen, which dims the screen and prevents accidental presses while shooting.
A mini tripod is included, allowing you to stand the stabilizer upright on a tabletop. There has been a lot of attention to detail and the tripod opens by pulling one leg, which is in a way designed completely beyond basic needs, but it shows how polished the whole thing is.
The gimbal has a large finger control that lets you control zoom, pan, tilt, or roll smoothly electronically, or use controls to change ISO, shutter speed, or aperture with cable-mounted cameras. All of these features are important tools for the solo photographer who has to manage a lot of small changes during a shoot.
The RS 5 stabilizer also works with the DJI Ronin app, allowing you to control the gimbal remotely with your smartphone. Using Bluetooth, you can wirelessly control the camera's record button, start and stop, directly from the stabilizer's 1.8" screen. For other camera adjustments, you will need a camera control cable.
