Celestron StarSense Explorer DX130 AZ star telescope

The StarSense Explorer Series DX 130AZ includes StarSense software and a phone holder. The software installed on your phone guides you in which direction you need to turn the tube, and turning is done simply by grabbing the telescope and pointing the tube according to the instructions.

When looking at the stars with a telescope, one of the most important things is the light intensity, or how much light the tube collects. This is affected by the aperture, or diameter of the tube. When compared to the smaller StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ telescope, this DX 130AZ has a higher light-gathering power. Compared to the human eye, the DX130 collects 345 times the amount of light (the LT114AZ has a reading of 269x). The higher light intensity allows for greater detail.

StarSense Explorer App for your phone

Celestron's StarSense Explorer is the first app available for consumer telescopes that allows you to use your smartphone to orient yourself to objects in the starry sky.

From the phone app, you simply select the object you want to observe. The app will instruct you in which direction to turn the telescope. The position indicated by the telescope will update in real time on the phone screen, and when you are at the desired object, the cursor will turn green.

Stargazing usually starts with learning a few constellations and locating them in the sky with the naked eye. Tonight's Best is a feature of the Starsense Explorer app that suggests the best objects to view at the moment. The list is updated according to your location, meaning the app offers the objects that are visible from your location.
