This Fuji 16-50mm F2.8-4.8 is the latest version of the manufacturer's so-called kit lens. Kit lens is usually a somewhat derogatory term for a lens packaged with cameras, often slightly cheaper, but the previous 18-55mm version was the best quality of the manufacturers' kit lenses.
And now a halved version of all this has been released. The reason for designing the new lens is the requirements set by the new bodies. Fuji cameras have a resolution of up to 40 megapixels in APS-C sensor size, which means the image must be in good condition. In addition, autofocus has developed, and object recognition and tracking can be achieved at a completely different speed than a few years ago. The new XF 16-50mm meets these requirements and is a great companion for all Fuji bodies.
First, the focus is on the wider focal length starting at 16mm, meaning the equivalent focal length in film is 24-76mm. The size and weight are roughly the same, meaning it is a compact lens in terms of aperture.
Additionally, the zoom mechanism works internally, meaning the lens size does not change when zooming. The mechanical construction is therefore robust and this new lens is also weather and dust protected!
