The Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary is a super fast and compact wide-angle lens for Canon RF-S cameras. Perfect for videography, landscapes and low light!

The Sigma 15mm f/1.4 is a fast, wide-angle prime lens designed specifically for Canon RF-S compatible APS-C cameras, such as the EOS R50, R10, and R7.
On Canon's APS-C cameras, the full-frame equivalent focal length is approximately 24mm. This wide field of view is very familiar in modern visual content, as it closely matches the main camera on many smartphones. However, unlike a phone, this lens’s ultra-fast f/1.4 aperture combined with a large sensor allows for precise depth-of-field control, making your photos and videos truly stand out in any feed.
Since its release, the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN has been one of the manufacturer's best-selling lenses. It offered an excellent balance of image quality and speed, becoming a massive hit among videographers. This new Sigma 15mm f/1.4 replaces the older model, and as the changed focal length suggests, it has been completely redesigned from the ground up.
The lens is a staggering 50% lighter and 30% shorter than the previous 16mm version! On top of that, the image quality has improved, and the autofocus is faster.
Considering its price point, the Sigma 15mm packs an impressive array of special glass (including FLD and SLD elements) to minimize aberrations while drastically shrinking its physical footprint. When paired with a camera body like the Canon EOS R50, it creates a highly compact, perfectly balanced setup with advanced optical quality.
According to the manufacturer, the image quality is stellar even wide open, making the lens at its best in low light or when an extremely shallow depth of field is desired. Sharpness improves even further when stopped down to f/4, providing plenty of raw resolution for demanding subjects like architecture.
A surprisingly big improvement has been made to the rendering of out-of-focus areas (bokeh). The background blur looks beautifully softer in most conditions compared to the 16mm version. It features 9 rounded aperture blades, ensuring the bokeh remains smooth and pleasing even when stopped down. Furthermore, the lens produces stunning sunstars: at f/11–f/16, point light sources create sharp, beautifully defined starburst effects.
Sigma's new stepping motor-based autofocus performs exceptionally well, locking onto subjects quickly and reliably. The autofocus is seamless during video recording, aided by the motor's near-silent operation. While there is a slight amount of focus breathing (the focal length shifts marginally as the focus distance changes), given the lens's advanced features, compact size, and superb image quality, it comes highly recommended for hybrid shooters.
Similar to Canon’s native lenses, the RF-S version features a programmable control ring instead of a physical aperture ring, adding great usability for managing camera settings. The lens also features basic dust and splash resistance.
