The Panasonic 28-200mm is a compact superzoom for full-frame L-Mount compatible cameras. The variable aperture is F4-7.1, which makes the whole thing small, the filter thread is 67mm and the lens length is just over 9 centimeters!
Despite its size, the lens includes optical image stabilization and also works in conjunction with in-body stabilizers, such as those on Panasonic S5 series cameras, for a combined image stabilization effect of up to 6.5 stops.
The lens is at its best in good light, for example when traveling or, due to its size, also as the only lens when hiking. For moments when you need more light, you can bring a 50mm prime lens with you in your camera bag.
For wide landscapes and details captured from afar, this Panasonic 28-200mm focuses surprisingly close, at the wide-angle end the closest focusing distance is only about 14cm, meaning the maximum magnification ratio is 0.5x. This so-called semi-macro is a good result with the zoom, even though it is not by definition a so-called true macro, and Panasonic has included this in the lens' name.
The lens is weather and dust sealed, and the outer lens element is coated with a coating that makes cleaning easier.
